Medicare

The A,B,C’s and 1,2,3’s of Medicare can be overwhelming for many people when they first become eligible. Most people dread even hearing the word “Medicare”, but it doesn’t have to be a disheartening task! We can make it fun and educational! This can be done by choosing someone you can trust to assist with the process. I take my time to educate and go through all the options available to you. Then YOU get to choose what avenue to take!

Medicare Tip 1: Don’t be swayed by unsolicited phone calls and text messages. Medicare Representatives are not permitted to contact you without your permission! Medicare Tip 2: If you don’t sign up for Part D when you first become eligible for Medicare and you don’t have creditable drug coverage, you may end up with a late enrollment penalty!

Simple Breakdown of Medicare:

When you first become eligible, you should receive your red, white and blue card. If you don’t receive your card, make sure to contact the Social Security office as soon as possible. If you do get your card, unless you “opt out” of Part B, you have officially been enrolled into Original Medicare. Part A is Hospital Insurance and Part B is Medical Insurance. Now what? This is where I come in and we talk about WHY Original Medicare is not enough.

Next Step: Medicare Supplement or Medicare Advantage Plan?

Medicare Advantage Plans, also known as Part C, are offered by Medicare approved-private insurance companies that combine the coverage of Original Medicare and can also offer prescription drug coverage. Advantage plans often-times provide additional benefits that Original Medicare does not such as dental, vision and hearing. These plans typically have deductibles, copays and coinsurance.

Medicare Supplement, or Medigap, are offered by private insurance companies and have 10 different types of coverage. Medigap plans complement Original Medicare and pick up out-of pocket costs, such as deductibles, coinsurance, and copays. They don’t offer dental, vision or hearing benefits and prescription drug coverage is sold separately.

Part D- Prescription Drug Coverage can be purchased alone or can be found integrated in Medicare Advantage Plans.

Medicare Savings Programs- Medicare offers Medicaid coordinated programs that assist people with limited income and resources. There are several special plan options available to provide additional benefits and lower out-of-pocket and prescription drug costs.
